Transcendental Meditation Research Collected Papers

The series of volumes entitled Scientific Research on the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi Programme: Collected Papers, published from 1976 until the present, gather into one source the extensive research on this program of human development, founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, which has been taught around the world for almost six decades.

Since the first research paper on the physiological effects of the Transcendental Meditation® technique, published in the esteemed journal Science in 1970, this research has expanded to over 600 empirical and review papers by scientists at more than 200 universities and research centers in 30 countries. These studies document an extraordinary range of beneficial effects of the Transcendental Meditation technique, and its advanced practice, the TM-Sidhi® program, on the physiological, psychological, behavioral, and societal levels. This body of research confirms the status of the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi program as the most widely validated technology of human development.

The volumes of Collected Papers contain research papers reprinted from the diverse scientific journals in which they were originally published, as well as some previously unpublished studies.

The first seven volumes of Collected Papers (particularly volumes 1–4) contain also 225 papers not previously published, for archival purposes. These papers may be obtained at this website. The other papers are copyrighted by the journals which published them, and are found in those journals.

The papers in each volume are organized according to the following categories:

  • Part 1—Physiology: A—Metabolic, Biochemical, and Cardiovascular Changes; B—Electrophysiological and Electroencephalographic Changes; C—Health;
  • Part 2—Psychology: A—Intelligence, Learning, and Academic Performance; B—Development of Personality;
  • Part 3—Sociology: A—Rehabilitation; B—Productivity and Quality of Life;
  • Part 4—Theoretical and Review Papers.

The table of contents for each of the first seven volumes is posted here.

The scope of the results reported in these volumes is remarkable, and includes results not previously seen in the scientific literature. Unprecedented results reprinted from scientific journals in the Collected Papers series include studies demonstrating systematic development of cognitive functioning in adulthood, as measured by fluid intelligence and ego development, and the finding of field effects of improved behavior in society. This research clearly demonstrates that human potential, in both its individual and collective dimensions, can be developed in a systematic and scientific way through the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi program.
